Traditional embroidery has long been loved by Latvian women. Cross-stitch is highly favoured. You can find samples on national costumes for both men and women, including embroidering with beads, so often used on maidens’ head coverings, usually crowns. Often the embroidery is framed and decorates walls in the home. Some embroider bedcovers and bed linen, while I have taken the traditional designs and screen-printed them onto tea-towels. See Tea-towel section. Thus giving them a practical use in the home. Who doesn’t have tea-towels?

I call this the “9 Morning Stars” design. It is straight out of an embroidery pattern book.
